'Up for it? Our Bruggnhof is situated in a quiet location, away from traffic near the forest, but is located in such a way that it offers an ideal starting point for hikes, excursions, activities and shopping opportunities.

• Bus stop “St. Anton Mendelbahn" at the Mendel funicular valley station (approx. 280 m away): From there you can easily take public buses to the individual districts of Kaltern, to the village center, to the neighboring communities Eppan, Tramin, Auer or to Bolzano. • Opportunity to buy food: “Cafè/Bäckerei Eisenstecken” at the Mendelbahn valley station, where you can also get sweets, sausages, milk and cheese products (approx. 280 m).
• The Mendelbahn valley station (approx. 280 m): Opened in 1903 and at that time the first electrically operated railway in Tyrol and the steepest and longest continuous funicular in Europe - the journey to the Mendel Pass, the local mountain of the Kalterer region, with this cable car and its 64 % route gradient is an experience. There are numerous hiking opportunities at the top, such as to the Penegal viewpoint, to the Halbweghütte, to the Malgahütte, Überetscherhütte or to the peak of the Roen and in winter there are also tobogganing and skiing opportunities.
• Entry to the Via Alta di Caldaro/Kalterer Höhenweg (approx. 280 m): directly above our farm, which offers hiking opportunities towards Altenburg, Graun, lake of Kaltern or towards St. Nikolaus and Mendel Pass. We would be happy to provide you with further information on this personally.
• Restaurants: restaurant/pizzeria Eggbauer or Buschenschank Jägerkeller around the Mendel funicular valley station (approx. 400 m), where you can stop for a meal.
• Kaltern village center (approx. 2 km), which you can easily reach via a promenade in fourteen minutes on foot: various shops, boutiques, restaurants/pizzerias, ice cream parlors and bars invite you to stroll and linger.
• The Adventure Park Kaltern (approx. 1.1 km): a high rope course next to the sports facilities is only a fifteen-minute walk away, offers fun and excitement for young and old and are the ideal destination for all those, who want to spend a special day in between the beautiful nature of Kaltern. • Ice arena and tennis courts Kaltern (approx. 1.1 km) at the sports facilities: in winter for skating in the ice arena or all year round for playing tennis at the tennis courts.
• The Peace Path (approx. 1.1 km) leads from Kaltern to St. Peter in Altenburg; it meanders from St. Anton through the Rastenbach gorge to the church ruins of St. Peter in Altenburg. Along the way, artists have created five sculptures that serve as points of reflection. More information can be found here.
• Cycle path (approx. 2 km): on the Kellereistraße near the old locomotive, a cycle path leads to Bolzano and the Etschtal or further into the Unterland/Bassa Atesina.
• Der Kalterer See, der wärmste Alpensee (ca. 3,5 km), welcher zum Schwimmen, Surfen, Tretbootfahren oder Fischen einlädt.

Shopping in Kaltern

Our local shops in the village center are available for shoes, underwear and clothing.

From Easter to the beginning of November it‘s even easier to stroll through Kaltern's streets: the town center of Kaltern then becomes a traffic-calmed zone. This means an even more pleasant and, above all, quieter shopping experience for you in Kaltern. After a sunny day at Lake Kaltern, take a leisurely stroll through the picturesque center of Kaltern, pick out offers, fashion bargains or gifts from the pretty shop windows.

In July and August there are long shopping evenings on Thursdays (the shops are open until 10 p.m.) and in spring and autumn there are “long Saturdays” (the shops are open until 6 p.m.), each with a supporting program. For example, the extended shopping pleasure on “Long Saturdays” is framed by various program items: From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Kaltern Farmer’s market offers high-quality, home-grown products. In the afternoon, all music lovers can expect a concert from various South Tyrolean music bands. The shops keep their doors open during the following core opening times: Monday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. (April/May/June and also in September/October)
